Milk Thistle
Silybum marianum
Is it just me, or does Milk Thistle look exactly how it’s supposed to? Unique in color and shape, thistly, almost like a magical little kingdom we saw in a Dr. Seuss movie?
Milk Thistle is unbelievably supportive, I feel a strong need to preface that everything I am about to present to you is the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth: Silybum is magic.
Also, fun to say.
When you think about Milk Thistle, I want you to immediately think about your liver and all that you’ve done to it. Consuming alcohol, indulging in rich, fatty foods, all of that aging you had to do. LIVER. Our liver is the largest organ within the body and functions as our blood cleanser; filtering blood from our intestines and replenishing with antioxidants. That means everything we consume is metabolized through our livers - food, alcohol, medications, drugs, etc. Think about the times you’ve taken your car for an oil change, and majority of the time our friendly mechanics suggest a new air filter and show your current filter is filled with dust, dirt, and (always in my case) a bunch of small leaves. That is our liver. And our livers need a cleanse to get out the dust, dirt, and (for the perseverance of quality prose) leaves.
Milk Thistle is our liver washing vice; our air-filter replacement. In fact, it looks out for our livers so well that it regenerates the cells of our liver WHILE we strip them away, like when we consume alcohol and eat fatty foods.
Silybum (I love saying that) is a strong galactagogue - supporting milk supply and lactation - and cholagogue, which properly discharges bile. Milk Thistle aids in digestion, is a promising acne cleanser, and is a mild laxative when mixed with principle demulcent herbs.
We love our Silybum!
