California Poppy

Eschscholzia californica

“Throw the seeds out and let them grow; marvel at their lustrous color, and relish in their powers!” - Deanna Roselli, another quote about California Poppy: “I love this flower!!!” - Also me.

The sweetest little fact I learned about California Poppy is that it grows best in the wide open wild, living happily amongst native grasses and wild flowers. To me, it creates a gentle, child-like entity that thrives in uncultivated lands; a story from which many of us could use a page.

California Poppy not only flourishes in color and profound shape, giving it an ornament-like show-cup shape in rich oranges, reds, and yellows; it showcases promising properties as a strong relaxing nervine and semi-hypnotic affects, catering to the restless, anxious, insomniacs.

This gentile flower is safe for children and is friendly to the liver and heart. California Poppy contains alkaloids similar to opium poppy (can appear like an opiate in a drug test), but much milder and with non-addictive properties. These chemical compounds are what make this flower a great adjustment post pain medications, an exceptional sleep-aid, and a breathe-easy assistant; like a breath of fresh air. California Poppy works quickly and has a sweeter taste compared to the myriad of herbs used to support the nervous system. The flower shines in aiding depression, anxiety, insomnia, children that wet the bed, nerve pain, sensitivities to weather changes, and mood disturbances.

A unique feature is that the plant must be used fresh, and is most redeemable after its life cycle, but before it is dried. This means we must let it live its full, wonderful life and then harness the contents before it dries - similar to how we preserve a body after death and properly mourn it.
